For Michael

mikeThis post is about a long-time friend, Michael Bonderer, a missionary in El Salvador, who is in grave condition with pneumonia in a San Salvador hospital.

Yesterday Zuze Bonderer reached out to a number of us here in the United States in an effort, if possible, to get her husband and our friend home to the United States for treatment. His mission organization, Homes from the Heart, has mobilized just such an effort. Sean Miller, Board President, is sharing this message below, and personally, I thank Meghan Sullivan and Rob Beckham for doing so much of the footwork on this. Here is the message:

“Michael went in the hospital earlier this week with a flair up of pneumonia. He is weak and needs a lot of care. I know his daughters and his wife Zuze are terrified. The hospital in El Salvador apparently runs on a cash basis. Most of you know Michael and the money they have is used to build homes and take care of others.

“If the medical staff in San Salvador can stabilize him enough for a flight to the States, they can take him to the Kansas City VA. Michael served our country as a US Marine and has benefits. Any contributions you would like to make to Homes from the Heart for Michael’s care will be sent immediately to El Salvador. If you know Michael, you care about him. Please help Zuze get him back on his feet and to the Kansas City VA.”

If you don’t know Michael, this video was produced by Patti Allan on one of our trips to El Salvador, and is a great introduction.
