Do the Right Thing

“Obeying God, by default, does not bring you more power, control, prestige, honor, or respectability. It certainly does not grant you permission to be selfish or arrogant or imposing. Obeying God, by default is to take the side of the poor and the needy; the used and abused. It is to proclaim, to work toward and to bring liberation to the captive held behind bars; held in the grip of addiction; held in the cycles of violence or poverty. Obeying God is to heal others; to restore sight; to throw light on the darkness of ignorance, to point to the truth. To obey God is to love mercy and to do justice – especially for those refused mercy and deprived of justice. This won’t make you a hero. It probably won’t make you a saint. It will likely create enemies. But if you want to do what is right – do right by the least of these.”
